WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
Broocies Fundraising champions 'Waste Not Want Not'
Broocies Fundraising has been holding events, auctions and fundraisers for 10 years. We are a not for profit organisation. The funds have been used to help animal welfare worldwide. We recently moved into assisting people in desperate need of finances to take care of a particular health problem with their pets. We now wish to extend this charitable work to our local area and provide support in a different way. We have collected and distributed excess food for 18 months since the first lockdown through a local community project. This project has come to a natural end following the lifting of restrictions. So, we have decided to take the challenge ourselves as a natural progression.

It is heart breaking to know that so much perfectly edible food is wasted yearly, monthly and indeed daily. We as a country are sending tonnes of food to landfill that is not wanted before the sell by date. Every day most supermarkets have enough food to feed many families that is just thrown away. Through the Fair Share scheme a lot of this food is donated and distributed for projects such as this.

Everyone needs a little help from time to time. Since the start of the pandemic in 2020 we have known more and more people struggle for various reasons to just get by. What we noticed that there are gaps in the social help systems. We have seen and indeed experienced ourselves in the past the very real worries of trying to make ends meet. Particularly if there is a reduction of income but no entitlement to financial support or help from a food bank. Some people, and often the elderly without advocates or carers don't know about available help or even feel too embarrassed to reach out. We use our local knowledge, word of mouth and contacts to make that income stretch a little further. We have a funds donation scheme that we can use to buy a few basic supplies if someone is experiencing an extreme crisis and food banks are unable to help.

Based in Aylesham, Kent we can support those locally and in surrounding villages.
We also hope to inspire others to make the most of left overs and food that needs using up such as unusual items reduced in the shops near the end of the day. We create dishes and preserves with excess food ourselves and not only share the results for people to enjoy but also the recipes. We plan to make some short videos to post here to demonstrate some of these recipes and tips. We truly hope that when stuck for ideas, creativity will flow with a few prompts from us. We hope that people will share their tips with us all and finished dish photos. Already in our gallery you can see photographs of meals made from donated food and enjoyed by the recipients.
Together we can reduce waste!
